The assortment of the rough Diamond marks the beginning of the manufacturing process & this process ends with the stone being polished. The grading of the stone is done in the final stage.

Rough Assortment:
The initial stage, where the stone begins its journey of being transformed from a rough stone to a polished diamond begins here. Ensuring purity of the stone & checking its colour before the rough stone is graded is the function of this department.

Planning and Marking:
The final shape of the diamond, its cut & weight is finally decided in this very crucial stage of the manufacturing process of a diamond. The marking of a diamond according to its plane is done during this critical phase.

Cleaving and Sawing:
The simple methods by which a diamond can be divided into 2 different pieces are cleaving & sawing. A diamond has different planes, on the basis of which a marked diamond can be cleaved or sawn.
A diamond has to be cleaved if the marking is along with or parallel to its planes & sawn i.e 'cut ' in case the marking is perpendicular or against the planes.
Sawing has seen a lot of technological advancement in the recent times. The process of Sawing was earlier done by using sawing machines to cut the diamonds into 2. Blades were used to cut the diamond into 2 & this is a very time consuming process as it takes hours to saw a diamond. People world-wide, continue the use of this process as it is still practiced globally. Laser Sawing is the currently used & latest technology available in this sphere. The biggest advantage of this system is that, it is very fast & precise.

Bruting Department:
The rough diamond gets its final shape in this department. The bruter needs to take utmost care so that the diamond does not break, or its natural skin is not removed or there is minimum weight loss. To give the final shape to the rough diamond to achieve the optimum effect on the stone is the main objective of the bruter.

Polishing:
The final task of faceting is done once the bruted stone is passed to the polishing department. The method of giving the stone its final look is called polishing. As, even a small mistake done by the artisan can make the diamond look less valuable than what it might have been, if had been cut properly, the artisan needs to be immensly careful during all stages. Since, this is the final stage of the manufacturing process, from here the Diamond goes to the grading department.
